Meet MiiPC - Raspberry Pi American style

The trend of mini computers is still going on. A new kid just showed up into the family of cheap, mini computers. MiiPC, a mini-Android based PC aimed to provide a safe environment for children to use the internet under the watchful eye of their parents.

This little device is designed for large screen connectivity and is optimized to provide a true keyboard and mouse experience, essentially offering your kids a basic PC experience. And the price is quite affordable, under $100.

Here is the hardware specs of MiiPC:
  • Marvell Armada 1.2GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM memory
  • 4GB internal flash storage (expandable via SD Slot and USB port)
  • WiFi (802.11 b/g/n)
  • Ethernet Port
  • Bluetooth (4.0)
  • USB 2.0 Ports
  • Speaker & Microphone Jack
  • HDMI (1080p/720p) output
  • Android Jelly Bean 4.2
To help your kids use the internet safely, an app which provides various levels of parental control is used in MiiPC. With this software, the parents can allow or disallow apps, set time restrictions and limitations for websites, and track exactly how their kid is spending his time on the PC. Of course, there is no guarantee that the kid wont be able to access the dark side of the internet force if he knows the how-to's. But MiiPC certainly adds value for concerned parents who don’t want to mess around with website blocking software.

Currently, the MiiPC team is having a campaign on Kickstarter to raise fund. The target is $50,000. If you’re interested in MiiPC the initial pledge will set you back $99 ($89 if you’re quick to be one of the first 200 supporters) and you’ll receive your own MiiPC when it ships out sometime in the middle of the year.
